Welcoming delegates to London, José Güell, Spain, president of EuCornea, said that the 5th EuCornea congress was continuing the upward trajectory of the society. The number of delegates attending the congress, was 802, the highest number of delegates since the foundation of the society. The congress featured 11 symposia, four courses and nine free paper sessions.
Dr Güell said EuCornea was delighted to be partnering its congress with the XXXII Congress of the ESCRS and 14th Congress of EURETINA.
He said that the strategy of teaming up with societies such as the ESCRS and EURETINA made sense for a young organisation such as EuCornea.
“At a time when we all have to choose carefully which congresses we attend, offering delegates more than one meeting at the same time seems to be very valuable. With this in mind, I am pleased to announce that next September EuCornea will once again be partnered with the ESCRS congress in Barcelona. We hope that this alliance of related meetings will be highly beneficial for members and delegates from all organisations,” he said.
As outgoing president of EuCornea, Dr Güell delivered the EuCornea Medal Lecture on the topic “Deep Anterior Lamellar: The Best keratoplasty Option in Keratoconic Eyes?”.
His lecture was followed by the presentation of the EuCornea Medal to Dr Güell by past-president Harminder Dua, UK.
President-elect Francois Malecaze, France, also presented a special plaque to Dr Güell as a token of appreciation for his contribution to the work of EuCornea.
